Privacy
The Daily Times is built to know as little about you as it can and still print your paper.
What we store
- Your email address, to send sign-in links. No password.
- Your interests as you entered them: topics, subreddits, tickers, feeds, arXiv categories, a city for weather, your timezone, and the description you typed.
- Editions (the finished pages) for 30 days, then deleted.
- Links you've already seen, as normalised URLs, for 60 days, so stories don't repeat.
- Printers: a name, when it was paired and last connected.
- Tokens for your AI endpoint and printers, stored only as one-way hashes.
What we never see
Your calendar, mail, chats and files. If you connect an AI, it reads those on its side and sends us only the finished page.
Who else is involved
- Public sources: to build your auto edition, this server requests Google News searches for your topics, Hacker News, Reddit, arXiv, Yahoo Finance for your tickers, Open-Meteo for your city, and the feeds you add. These requests come from the server, not from you, and carry no account or personal information beyond the search terms themselves.
- Source suggestions run on this server by keyword matching; your description isn't sent anywhere.
- Email delivery: sign-in links go through this server's mail provider.
- Hosting and database: the operator's providers process data on our behalf.
What we don't do
No ads, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no third-party scripts, no selling or sharing data. One cookie, to keep you signed in.
Your controls
Download everything or delete your account on the Account page. Deletion is immediate.
Run your own
The Daily Times is open source. You can run the whole thing on your own computer or server, with your data in a local file.
